Night Shift

From The Forever Winter Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Night Shift is a mechanic where certain deployments will take place during the night. At night, all forces withdraw from the surface and take their fight underground while automated Corpse Recovery Teams sweep the surface for the wounded and deceased to be used for reprocessing.

Despite open combat ending on the surface, that does not mean it is safe, as these recovery teams are just as capable of killing Scavs, and previously uncontested areas underground become sites of new conflict as factions struggle for stronger positions to begin the next day.

Some maps may have additional variants, such as Scrapyard Nexus.

Map Changes

Ashen Mesa

  • The lighting will become much more orange, and the sun will be eclipsed almost completely.
  • Eurasia will deploy Cyborgs in large numbers and rarely Brawlers in the Bunkers and wrecked Titan.
  • Mother Courages will appear in large numbers, patrolling the wasteland in duos or even trios.
  • Euruska will rarely deploy Grabbers in the wasteland.
  • Europa will occasionally deploy a Corpse Tank into the wasteland. It should be noted that having Terror On Display active does NOT guarantee the tank's spawn.
  • Hunter Killers will typically be Eurasian Scramblers.

Elephant Mausoleum

  • The lighting will be virtually nonexistent with an oppressive dark fog and a lightning storm covering the map.
  • Eurasia will deploy Brawlers, Cyborgs, and occasional Mother Courages.
  • Euruska may deploy multiple Grabbers, including out on the battlefield itself instead of just in the medical trenches.
  • There is a chance for Europan Medium Mechs and Corpse Tanks to spawn at the motor pool.
  • Prisoners will not appear.
  • Euruskan Stalkers are commonly deployed as Hunter Killers.
  • The Europan Red Baron Exo will spawn if Red Baron's Legacy is active.

Frozen Swamp

  • Daytime units are replaced by Eurasian Cyborgs and Brawlers. Quest-related units, such as the Water Thief Sniper and Euruskan Drones, will still spawn.
  • Multiple Grabbers can spawn on the map, though not all at the same time. Additionally, aside from spawning in their usual areas, Grabbers will spawn in new areas, such as the Europan FOB control room.
  • Water Thieves still spawn but with much less frequency.
  • Quest-related objectives and units still spawn, making them easy to spot.
  • The map assumes a darkened, foggy appearance overshadowed by a lightning storm, similar to the Night Shift on Elephant Mausoleum, and visibility is significantly reduced. However, there is a more greenish hue compared to Elephant Mausoleum's Night Shift.
  • The map also undergoes several aesthetic changes:
  1. Between the Europan FOB and the Euruskan drone nest, piles of corpses similar to the ones found on Scorched Enclave's Night Shift can be found.
  2. More fires can be seen in certain areas that aren't present during the day time, such as the refinery behind the Scavenger Camp entrance/extraction point.

Mech Trenches

  • No Night Shift variant.

Scorched Enclave

  • The lighting will change dramatically to a drab, greyscale with minimal color grading. All units will have alternate, ashen skins.
  • Eurasia will only deploy Brawlers, damaged Cyborgs, and Mother Courage units.
  • Euruska may deploy a Grabber or Toothy Mech to protect the Pipes extraction point.
  • No Europan units will spawn aside from a Corpse Tank and Pyro (if Pyro Revealed is activated).

Scrapyard Nexus

Eclipse Variant

  • The lighting will take on a slight orange glow, similar to daytime Scorched Enclave.
  • Unlike other maps, Europa will be present. While the initial spawns will remain the same, as you progress into the Nexus, various Europan Infantry will drop down from above to engage the Eurasian and Euruskan infantry.
  • Once the Euruskan & Eurasian infantry are killed, Europan infantry will become the main threat to Scavs, with the occasional Cyborg assault wave coming in with the occasional Euruskan Infantry.
  • The Timed Extract remains unchanged, with Eurasian Cyborgs and Drones coming to investigate.
  • No Hunter Killers will be deployed.

Night Variant

  • The lighting will be similar to night time Scorched Enclave.
  • Only Eurasian cyborgs and a Euruskan Grabber will appear.
  • No Hunter Killers will be deployed.

Underground Cemetery

  • The lighting will change slightly to a darker, greenish hue. Flares will be placed incrementally throughout the map.
  • The key difference between the day and night map is the presence of the Cultists, who will spawn and attack all factions.
  • Euruska will not deploy any units aside from the Grabber.
  • Eurasia will deploy Pack Leaders, and Europa will deploy an Exo if their respective quests--Alpha Threat and Rust In Peace--are active.
